Cross Cultural Living

Oubangui River
Living in a foreign country, speaking another language, learning new customs, eating unfamiliar foods… These things can all be challenging.  When the going gets tough, it's nice to know that there are others living a similar experience.

There are some blogs I find uplifting, entertaining, and encouraging.

A Life Overseas has more than a dozen people who write from their experience about the joys and trials of living in another culture.

One of the writers for Life Overseas, Rachel Pieh Jones,  blogs at Djibouti Jones.  Some of my favorite posts she has written are the following:

15 Things I Want to Tell My Third Culture Kids

When Rich Westerners Don't Know They Are Being Rich Westerners

Whether you are living in another culture, or you just want to learn a little more about what the experience would be like, these blogs are great to read.

More from Around the Web

For those of you who enjoyed reading the blogs of some of our colleagues last week, here are a few more:

As a nursing student, Deborah visited Impfondo.  She's now in language school preparing to return to Impfondo long term.

Deb writes about working with Mercy Ships in Pointe Noire. They have been to Impfondo to do a screening for potential patients.
We met Angi while she was living in Brazzaville, but she has lived in both Congos.  She blogs about her experiences at Life Without a Recipe.

Impfondo found Around the Web

Some of our colleagues in Impfondo have blogs, too.   The Harveys have been in the Republic of Congo since 1995.  Their newsletters can be found at Congo Harveys.

The Samoutous are operating New Sight Congo, the first eye center in our area.  They are also our neighbors in Impfondo.
Dr. Laura Foudy was in Impfondo for about 2 1/2 years.  She's heading to the "other Congo" for three months.  We hope she'll be back in Impfondo soon.
The Tenpenneys are our newest arrival in Impfondo!
